Flax seed chutney is also called as flaxseed podi in the south.
Podi means a powdered chutney which can be served with dosa or idli.
Flax seed also called as linseed is considered as the most powerful plant on the earth.
The flax seeds are a brown color and small seeds which are the richest source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Along with the Omega-3 fatty acids, it also contains Fiber, proteins, Vitamin B1, Manganese, Magnesium, Phosphorus, and Selenium.
As ground flax seeds are sticky, most of the people don’t like the taste. But in this recipe I have dry roasted the flax seeds, dry roasting removes the stickiness and also makes the taste good.
As flax seeds are high in fiber (both soluble and insoluble). It is good for those who wants to lose or control the weight. If we add water to the flax seeds powder, it becomes sticky like a gel because of the presence of fibers.
The fiber present in the flax seeds helps to reduce the cholesterol.
Flax seeds benefits for skin and hairs. As it contains vitamin B, it reduces the dryness and flakiness
Flax seeds are high in antioxidants, which benefits for anti-aging. It also helps to maintain the hormonal balance in women. It maintains the level of estrogen in the body.
Everybody should take 1 to 2 spoons of flax seeds daily.
As the flax seeds are high in fiber we should drink more water or should increase the intake of fluid.

Dry roast the flax seeds till the popping sound comes. Because of the roasting, its stickiness becomes less also the dry roasting enhances the taste.
Similarly dry roast the sesame seeds till the popping sound comes.
Dry roast the peanuts till the color of the peanuts changes as shown in picture.
If the red chilies are crispy, then you can use them a it is. But if the red chilies are not crispy enough, you can dry roast them.
First grind the red chilies, to make sure that the red chilies get finely powdered.
Then add roasted flax seeds, sesame seeds, peanuts, and salt. Grind them to make a fine powder. Your flax seeds chutney powder (Podi) is ready to eat. Add little sesame oil or olive oil to it while serving. Serve it with dosa or chapati.
- Always add sesame oil or olive oil while serving the chutney.
2. Dry roast the flax seeds properly to remove the stickiness if the seeds, otherwise the chutney will not taste nice.
3. You can add 1/2 Cup of Fried gram instead of 1/2 Cup of Peanuts.
4. You can also add curry leaves to enhance taste and nutrition. Dry roast the curry leaves till it becomes crunchy then grind it with the other ingredients.
