Rava laddu (It may spell as ladoo or laadoo), is a special Diwali Sweet. This is a ball-shaped sweet popular in India. These Sweet laddus are a healthy, tasty and delicious treat for your children. This is a very quick recipe for a sweet, with very less number of ingredients like rava, sugar, coconut, ghee ( Clarified Butter )and some dry fruits.Rava is called as semolina in English.
Rava Laddus can be made by two different ways one is by preparing sugar syrup and another is by adding powdered sugar. I prefer to add powdered sugar as it is easy to make.
Here I have given the laddu recipe by adding powdered sugar.
|Course : Sweets & Puddings Cuisine : Indian|
Keep a kadhai on the stove for heating and put the ghee for roasting rava.
Here I have used Cow Ghee as it is good for health and it also smells and tastes nice.
Roast the rava nicely till its color changes to little reddish as shown in the picture.
Pour the roasted Rava in a big bowl.
Dry roast Maida (all purpose flour).
You can also add ghee while roasting. But sometimes the Maida forms lumps when we use ghee, so I prefer to roast the maida without using ghee.
Add the maida to the roasted rava.
Now add Icing Sugar, dry fruits, coconut, Cardamom Powder and Dry Ginger Powder to the mixture.
The Cardamom Powder and Dry Ginger Powder are optional, but it gives a nice smell to the laddus.
In this recipe, I am using desiccated coconut but you can use grated dry coconut for better taste
If you are using grated dry coconuts, dry roast it for few minutes on low flame, it will enhance the taste of coconut.
Mix it properly with the spatula, (Don't use hands for mixing as the mixture will be still hot).
Start rolling laddus when the mixture is hot. Once the mixture gets cool, it will not bind together to form a laddu.
Put some almonds, cashew nuts or raisins for garnishing.
Your sweet, tasty and delicious Rava Laddus are ready to eat.
>>Recipe Notes –
1.Make sure that you will roll the laddus immediately (when the ingredients are hot), as once the mixture gets cool,it will not bind and you will not be able to roll the laddus.
2.If you are not able to roll the laddus even the mixture is hot, then you can add some more melted ghee and little of icing sugar. Mix it together and start rolling laddus again
3.If you don’t want to use maida because of some health problems, you can use an equal amount of Besan instead of maida. While roasting Besan you should add ghee otherwise, it will not roast properly. (Using Besan instead of maida will change the only flavor but it’s still delicious)
